- Structuring every meal around a lean protein
- Meal frequency (eating every three hours)
- Totally avoiding refined, processed, starchy carbohydrates, and wheat (I came up with some wicked slow-carb recipe option substitutes)
- Eliminating dairy
- Completely cutting out fruit, which was my biggest craving during my pregnancy
- Drinking a gallon of water a day
- Upping my daily fish oil to one gram per one percent body fat -- liquid form. Obviously, that'd otherwise be quite a few pills.

“About a year ago at our annual company insurance signup, we changed our life insurance plans. We get the normal life insurance policy, but I needed more just in case something did happen. I got the forms, filled in my information, and sent them off to the insurance company. About a week later I got back the most disturbing rejection letter. ‘Denied, the information you provided leads us to conclude you are obese. Obesity leads to several health risk and you do not meet our requirements at this time.’ Obese, me? I thought… You see I filled out the forms and stated my height and weight, 6’1” at 288 lbs., I fudged my numbers as I was actually 315 lbs. I assume they use the BMI chart and automatically rejected my application.
That did it; I had enough of being overweight. Constant heart burn and no energy made life miserable. I always justified that I was ‘big boned’, so I asked around the office and looked for advice. I found a local wellness club and that’s when I started working with my wellness coach. Making a custom plan and setting goals. Drinking my 2 healthy meal replacement shakes a day. The pounds just fell off… It was AMAZING!!! I started in September of 2012 and now it’s July of 2013. I weigh 221 pounds and still going.
